Holiday Summary

Day 1: Arrive in Alice Springs

Arrive in Alice in the morning or around midday, pick up your rental vehicle and begin exploring some of the many attractions within Alice Springs. Whether you want to explore the local wildlife at the Reptile centre or renowned Desert Park, or the explore the history or the Old Telegraph station or perhaps visit the School of the Air (the worlds largest classroom, there is plenty to see and do. Perhaps wonder through the museums and art galleries and explore the local indigenous culture. Spend the afternoon exploring before settling into your accommodation.

Day 2: Balloons & West MacDonnell Ranges:

An early morning start with a spectacular balloon ride. Watch the sun rise & the kangaroos, wallabies and kites in their early morning activities. Champagne and nibblies awaits you on return ( – after the balloon has been packed up). Spend the rest of the day exploring the spectacular gorges and gaps of the West MacDonnell Ranges at your own pace. The road is bitumen all the way till Ormiston Gorge and Glen Helen Lodge. Choose from the 9 attractions depending on your fitness level and interests, before returning to Alice Springs.

Day 3: Alice Springs to Wattarka (Kings Canyon)

Spend part of the day driving from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon. Spend the afternoon and therefore cooler part of the day exploring the shear cliff walls of Kings Canyon. The package deal includes a heli flight so that your introduction to the Canyon and surrounding landscape is from the air. After your heli flight check in to your accommodation and watch the sunset from the viewing platform.

Day 4: Wattarka (Kings Canyon) to Uluru (Ayers Rock)

An early morning start gives you the opportunity to do the complete Kings Canyon walk during the coolest part of the day ( subject to health and fitness) Spend part of the day driving from Wattarka to Uluru along Luritja Rd and Lasseter highway. A mid morning departure allows you to arrive and settle into Ayers Rock Resort in a relaxed state. In the early afternoon we have organised a 20min scenic flight to take photos of this extraordinary landscape. The aerial view puts the size of Uluru into perspective against the flat desert.

Later in the day you will be picked up from your hotel to visit the magnificent Field of Light art installation by international artist Bruce Munro. The Field of Light Star experience begins at remote desert location with majestic views of Uluru and from a raised viewing area you will watch as the last sun rays hit Uluru and as darkness gradually falls and the coloured lights of the glass spheres come to life you walk through the Field of Light. You are then welcomed back for sparkling wine and canapés whilst viewing the illuminated installation in the darkness.

Day 5: Exploring Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park:

A magnificent day exploring the Kata-Tjuta National Park. Spend the time driving or walking around the base of the rock exploring the many aspects of this amazing monolith . You also have the opportunity to climb the Rock (people with heart and respiratory problems or fear of heights should not attempt it). In the afternoon visit Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) a collection of weathered red domes, located 50 km from Ayers Rock along a sealed road. There are two formal walks at Kata Tjuta and both are recommended. Many people believe Kata Tjuta is even more spectacular than the Rock.

Return to your accommodation before being picked up and taken to the Sounds of Silence Dinner. Watch the sunset over the Rock and fine dinning under the stars.

Day 6: Uluru - Alice Springs: ( or stay in Uluru )

An early wake up to experience sunrise with a guided tour. This package allows you to choose between three options to watch the spectacular sunrise over Uluru. Option 1) A peaceful 1 hr camel ride over big red sand dunes. Watch the desert come to life as dawn breaks over Uluru & Kata Tjuta and learn about the flora and fauna along the trail from your knowledgable cameleer. Includes a freshly baked damper & tea/coffee. 2) A sunrise viewing, enjoying an outback breakfast, visiting Mutijulu Waterhole and then driving around the base of Uluru before returning to the resort. 3) A full guided base walk of Uluru (also includes breakfast)

After completing your tour, return back to the resort and begin the 450km drive back to Alice Springs. Your departure time will depend on the attractions you want to see from these two locations and along the Lasseter and Stuart Highways.

Alternatively stay the night in Uluru and depart from Uluru tomorrow. In this case you have a free afternoon to relax by the pool or take up any other attractions or tours of interest.

Day 7: Free Day in Alice (or Uluru)

  • Book the package to start in Alice and end in Uluru or the other way around. (No change to price)
  • Upgrade to the 4WD so you can drive between Alice and Kings Canyon on the Mereenie Loop Road
  • Spend a night at Glen Helen Lodge on night 2 instead of back in Alice. (only suitable if you hire a 4WD and drive to Kings Canyon on the Mereenie Loop Road)
  • Find out the price for more than just 2 adults travelling.
  • Hire a medium or large sedan instead of the small sedan/hatchback
  • Change or add to the tours eg you may want to replace or remove a particular flight with a different tour or add another tour to the morning of Day 5 - its up to you
