Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Broome

Arrive in Broome pick up your campervan from the depot and visit one of Broome's supermarkets to stock up on supplies. After picking up your supplies check into your accommodation and begin exploring some of the many attractions within Broome. Depending on your interests spend time relaxing and swiming at Cable Beach. Marvel at the sweeping white beaches, rich red outcrops and blazing turquoise water of Gantheaume Point or participate in some of the great activities including a sunset camel ride or watch a movie at the famous Outdoor picture theatre.

Day 2: Broome - Bell Gorge

Begin your Kimberley adventure by heading out to Derby and the Gibb River Road at whatever time of day suits. An adventurous day exploring the famous gorges of the West Kimberley. Explore at your own pace and marvel at the natural landforms such as Windjana Gorge (an ancient underwater reef that is now above ground) Lennard River Gorge and Bell Gorge (one of the most spectacular gorges in the Kimberley).

Day 3: Bell Gorge to Mornington Wilderness Park

Today has you travelling into the geographic heart of the Kimberley to some of the best gorges in the whole north west around Mornington. Follow the 4WD track to the wilderness retreat of Mornington Wilderness Park. This part of the Kimberley is little known in the mainstream but is the highlight of most peoples trips. The scenery and gorges are unforgettable. The facilities and staff make it a must visit destination. In addition to great campground facilites there is also a licenced bar.

Day 4: Mornington Wilderness Park - St John Gorge & Dimond Gorge

A full day to explore the simply stunning Mornington Wilderness Park. Spend the day exploring the beautiful gorges around Mornington on the Fitzroy River. This includes a visit to the amazing Dimond Gorge with its spectacular towering cliffs and awe inspiring colours. and Sir John Gorge: 30min Drive 24km great scenery & swimming in beautiful clear water, moderately easy walk and offers a 20km along the gorge if interested and appropriately prepared. Beautiful sunsets and great walk exploring around the entrance to gorge.

Day 5: Mornington to Manning Gorge

Depart Mornington and head towards Manning Gorge along the Gibb River road at whatever time of the day suits. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Manning Gorge and which of the stunning attractions you want to explore along the way . Choose to visit, relax and swim at Galvans Gorge, Manning Gorge or Adcock Gorge.

Day 6: Manning Gorge to Drysdale Station

Spend the morning enjoying the peace and tranquility of a Kimberley sunrise at Manning Gorge before continuing your journey along the Gibb River Road. Not withstanding some of the beautiful scenery and gorges within some of the Cattle Stations that require a detour, attractions are limited along the Gibb River Road. There are only a handful of recognised points of interest close to the road between Manning Gorge & Drysdale Station.

Day 7: Drysdale Station to Mitchell Plateau

Today you will leave Drysdale station and "civilization" as you continue your journey north along the Kalumburu Road to the Mitchell Plateau. Along the way you have the option to detour and explore best examples of north Kimberley rock art to be seen anywhere in the Kimberley before completing your journey and arriving at your campground on the Mitchell Plateau

Day 8: Around Mitchell Plateau

Spend the day exploring the Mitchell Falls rated by many people, the most spectacular in Australia, the Mitchell Falls are enormous which you can't appreciate from photos. You have to experience this iconic Kimberley attraction to fully appreciate it. Spend the afternoon exploring other Plataeu attractions such as Aunayu – Surveyor’s Pool and Port Warrender Lookout

Day 9: Mitchell Plateau to Drysdale Station

Depending on your interests spend the morning walking back out the Mitchell Falls or take a scenic heli flight (extra cost but worth it) over the top of the falls and across the surounding plataeu and coastline before departing the Mitchell Plataeu and driving back towards Drysdale Station.

Day 10: Drysdale Station to El Questro Station

Today say goodbye to Drysdale Station as you leave the Kalumburu road and reconnect with the Gibb River Road. Along the way you will cross the mighty Pentecost river (be careful) before turning into El Questro the world famous 1 million acres cattle station that has been made into a wilderness park. Opportunities abound to enjoy spectacular scenery, swim, bushwalk, fish for the mighty barramundi or take a cruise down Chamberlain Gorge.

Day 11: El Questro Station

Spend the day exploring the awesome attractions and things to do at El Questro Station. There are all sorts of station activities including flights, heli-fishing, gorge cruises, horseback, camel-riding, and bushwalks. El Questro Gorge is the most spectacular walk in the park making its way through narrow and shear cliff faces, clear rock pools and tropical rainforest.

Day 12: El Questro to Kununurra

Today has you departing El Questro and heading towards Kununurra at whatever time of the day suits. Sleep in or take the opportunity to explore more of El Questro, before visiting Parry's Lagoon Nature Reserve with its extraordinary birdlife and cooling off with a refreshing swim at nearby Grotto Swimming hole. If you have time a quick drive up to Wyndham and the spectacular Five Rivers Lookout & Australia' Largest Boab Tree.or do the loop from Parry's Lagoon past Black Rock and Ivanhoe Crossing. On Arrival in Kununurra spend sunset at Mirima National Park, Kellys Knob or Lake Kununurra .

Day 13: Around Kununurra (optional Lake Argyle or Argyle Diamond Tour)

A full day to relax and/or explore the stunning attractions around Kununurra. Depending on your interests choose between a number of world class attractions including Lake Argyle & the Ord River or the spectacular scenery and bushwalks of Keep River National Park. Alternatively choose a guided tour of the Argyle Diamond Mine. (all are extra cost options - for costs refer to summary below).

Day 14: Kununurra to Bungle Bungles

Depending on your interests and how you spent yesterday, spend some time exploring attractions around Kununurra including Mirima National Park before heading down the highway to the Bungle Bungle National Park. The drive into the Park is an attraction in itself. Several open creek and river crossings and inspiring scenery make this slow track a great 4WD trek. Depending on what time you arrive into the Bungles begin exploring some of the stunning walks.

Day 15: Around Bungle Bungles

A full day to relax and explore the beauty of the Bungles that cannot be described in words. A short drive to the start of the walk to Cathedral Gorge gets you up close to the widely photogrphed beehive domes whilst the enormous size of the rocky outcrops will astound. Cathedral Gorge is simply stunning with its towering beehive cliff faces and cold pool of water fringed by a sandy beach. Later in the day you have the option to drive the full length of the Bungles embracing the beauty of the massive rocky outcrop. Echidna Chasm, Frog Hole Gorge & Mini Palms Gorge will give you a very different aspect on the Bungles . Echidna Chasm has jaw dropping beauty and you will marvel at its deep cleft and weird fluorescent lighting as you squeeze between 100 feet high sheer cliffs.

Day 16: Bungle Bungles to Fitzroy Crossing or Halls Creek

A free morning to relax and take in the gorgeous sights and sounds of the Bungle Bungles before heading out of the park and off down the Great Northern Highway to Halls Creek and then onto Fitzroy Crossing. On arrival in Halls Creek around lunch time spend some time exploring its 2 main attractions China Wall & Old Halls Creek. Take the opportunity to take a break before the 300km drive to Fitzroy Crossing or visit the amazing site that is Wolfe Creek meteorite crater.

Day 17: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome or Halls Creek to Derby

Depending on whether you stayed at Fitzroy Crossing or Halls Creek last night, continue your journey along the Great Northern Highway to Broome or Derby. Either way a recommended detour is to travel up to Geikie Gorge north of Fitzroy Crossing and explore another example of the wonders of the Devonian reef.

Day 18: Broome (or Derby) to Cape Leveque

Today drive from Broome or Derby to Cape Leveque. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Cape Leveque with its rugged pindan cliffs and sparkling tropical waters. While the road between Derby and the Dampier Peninsula turnoff (190km) has few recognised attractions, the Cape Leveque Rd north offers rich aboriginal culture and history amongst its coastal communities as well as pristine beaches.

Day 19: Around Cape Leveque

A relaxing day on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula. Cape Leveque is a great way to unwind at the end of your 21 day northern Australia adventure. The picturesque coastline around Cape Leveque is truly spectacular and remains pristine. A great day exploring the Cape, strolling on the beach and watching the magnificent sunsets along this spectacular piece of the Kimberley. For the more adventurous, take a half day cultural tour of the cape or take on a guided or self guided fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling tour. Equipment is available for hire if you choose the self guided options.

Day 20: Cape Leveque to Broome

Drive from Cape Leveque to Broome at whatever time of day suits you. Your departure time will depend on what time you want to arrive at Broome and which attractions you want to visit along the way. The Dampier Peninsula has some rich aboriginal culture and history amongst its coastal communities. You also have the opportunity to visit Willie Creek Pearl Farms or Cygnet Bay Pearl Farms. The only public access Pearl farms in the Kimberley.

Day 21: Depart Broome

A free day to relax and swim at Cable Beach, shop for pearls or explore more of Broome's highlights depending on what time and how you are leaving Broome. Please note Vehicle needs to be returned before 4pm.

Argyle Diamond Tour - Ex Kununurra

NB: Due to the mine operation closing in 2021 the tour schedule may change. Day tour to the Argyle Diamond Mine ex Kununurra where you land for a ground tour of the worlds largest producer of diamonds. Reboard your plane back to Kununurra via Bungle Bungles. Cost: A$TBA (Child <12 not allowed).

Mitchell Falls - Ex Kununurra

Fly over the magestic waterfalls and wilderness to the Mitchell Plateau. Then a 4km walk to the falls where you will enjoy a picnic lunch, returning to the airstrip by helicopter. Then reboard your aircraft to return. Cost: A$1549 C$1549

Lake Argyle Cruises - Kununurra

Journey to Lake Argyle for a stunning cruise to experience the best of this magnificent lake. Cost: Luncheon Cruise: A$125 C$70 Sunset: A$130 C$90 Ord River Cruise: A$205 C$130 Lake & Ord River Combination: A$330 C$225.

Heli Flight - Bungle Bungles

Enjoy a spectacular heli flight over the Bungles from the Bungles Helipad. Cost: 18min $299pp 30min $449pp 42min $549pp.

Canoe Hire - Mornington

Hire canoes to explore the magnificent gorges around Mornington. *NB Canoe numbers are limited* Cost: Diamond Gorge (2km one way) $70 per canoe Sir John Gorge (4km one way) $185 per canoe including hamper lunch.

Horizontal Falls Overnight - ex Derby

Take a spectacular seaplane flight to the Horizontal Falls & exhilarating fastboat ride through the falls. Then cruise the bays & creeks. Spend the night in private room on board a luxury houseboat. Departs 2.15pm returns 8.15am Cost: A$1075pp. (Marine Park Fee $17pp additional)
